Things to know:
- Currency: In Ireland, they use the Euro. 1 Euro is about 1.08 USD. You can use ATMs or use your credit/debit card almost everywhere as well.
- Food: I was literally drinking or being a tourist the entire time so food was pub after pub after pub. My advice is to try the fish and chips everywhere.
- Transportation: We were able to walk most places from our hotel. There is also a hop-on-hop-off bus that takes you pretty much ANYWHERE you’d want to go in Dublin. Tickets for the bus are about $23 for 24 hours of access to the bus or if you plan on doing it all and need two days, you can pay $27 for 48 hours! The bus has 27 stops and runs every 15 minutes from 9AM to 5PM. All of the stops are listed on the site I linked above, and you can ask for a map too!
- Hotel: I stayed at the North Star Hotel. Right down the block from a hop-on-hop-off stop and actually it was just a short walk over a pretty bridge to get to temple bar at night.
Things to Do:
Guinness Storehouse: The hop-on-hop-off bus can take you here. Tickets are about $22 and it gets you a tour through the storehouse so you can learn how Guinness is made and all that fun stuff. Then at the end, you get a free pint of Guinness at the Rooftop Gravity Bar with some pretty nice views of Dublin. Tons of photo ops too for all my clout chasers out there
Saint Patrick’s Cathedral: Cost less than $8 to see the beautiful Cathedral. We spent about a 30-45 minutes touring the cathedral and of course buying rosary beads for my beloved Godmother.
- Jameson Distillery
- Trinity College Library
Day Tours: Click any of the underlined links to get to the exact tour I took
Game of Thrones Tours: Winterfell Trek from Dublin: Full disclosure: I didn’t watch Game of Thrones but my friend wanted to take the tour because she watches and it was SO much fun. Our tour guide, Eric, is an extra on the show (and an extra on Vikings) and gave us TONS of info about the last season that didn’t air yet. We got to see the real Winterfell, see multiple filming locations around Ireland, hold cast members swords, AND the best part was meeting the beautiful Direwolves used in the show.
Winterfell Joffrey’s sword DIREWOLVES !!
Cliffs of Moher: Anyone who’s into hiking HAS to take a day trip to Cliffs of Moher. Wear comfy shoes and be careful while you walk. It was muddy and slippery when I went and I was not in the mood to fall 509 feet down a cliff that specific day. Views were out of this world.
Night Life:
Number one on the list is… drum roll please…
Temple Bar: “Temple Bar” is actually an area and a street name in Dublin which hurt my poor little brain as I was trying to locate this bar… but the building is bright red and says THE TEMPLE BAR in big letters so you really can’t miss it. Live music, an excessive amount of whiskey choices, and all around good times. Some people say it’s over rated. Those people are boring, don’t listen to them. Went here during the day and had even more fun going back at night.
Dicey’s Garden: Huge bar, good music, tons of people, and I thought I found my future husband here. Even though it didn’t work out, Dicey’s will always have a piece of my heart <3
Bad Ass Cafe: Regular degular bar but still tons of fun. There was a bachelor party or something going on when we stopped in.
Living Room Bar: DJ, house music, dancing. All that fun stuff.
Oliver St John Gogarty: Right near temple bar! They had a live band and played a mix of all different kinds of music (90’s songs, country, AND even through in some Irish step dancing).
