- Transportation: It’s a beach town so you can walk the board walk or any other streets to find something local BUT they made it easy for us when they created OCMD because the streets run in numbers from 1st street (where the pier is) all the way down to 145th street. You can hop on the bus that runs along Coastal Highway for $3 and your bus ticket is good until 6AM the next day. You need exact change though, so get your singles ready or go to a near by shop and break your 20 dollar bill, or get together with your friends to get it exact. The bus stops are about every two or three blocks so there will always be one near where you’re trying to go.
- Where should I stay? Anywhere you stay in OCMD you’re guaranteed to have a good time. I recommend staying on or near the boardwalk. They have the same shops every few blocks so you won’t be missing anything whether you stay on 1st street or 40th street. They have hotels, motels, Holiday Inns *Pitbull voice* Airbnbs, and houses you can rent all over OC. Personally, my family usually stays at Sahara Motel on 19th street, but I’ve rented Airbnbs and I’ve stayed at Tidelands on 5th street. Stay where it fits your budget, you’ll barely be in the room anyway.
- Don’t drink on the boardwalk. They will make you throw it out or give you a ticket.
Things to Do:
- Beach! You can bring floats, boogie boards, music, whatever you want to the OCMD beaches. My dad used to bring a baby pool so my sister didn’t have to go in the ocean. Theres very few rules, just put your drinks in a cup
- Walk down to the Pier. Ride the Ferris wheel, hit the arcade, eat some funnel cakes
- Parasailing, jet ski rentals, and boat rides are all available to do in OCMD
- Mini golf and amusement parks like Jolly Roger are near by and accessible every few blocks
Food/Bars:
- Best pizza is a toss up Tugos pizza and Francos Pizza on 13th
- Bad Monkey - craft beers and good food
- Phillips Seafood - best crab legs. ever.
- Embers - buffet style
- OC Mango Inc- Happy hour deals
- Back Shore Brewing Co. to meet all your craft beer needs
Seacrets: Located on 49th street, Seacrets is the biggest and best bar scene in OCMD. they have 4 different stages, a sit down restaurant, AND tables in the water. On weekends they have a party going from like 11AM - 3AM. You can go there for a day party, some night life, or if you’re as wild as me, both. Check out my complete and total guide to a day at Seacrets here: Guide To A Day At Seacrets.
Fagers Island 59th street: A little more on the fancier side of restaurants. They have a pretty gazebo for on the bay. Perfect for a date night or nice dinner with the family. And then at night… DJ’s, live music, and a nice bar scene.
Fish Tales: This place has it ALL. It’s the perfect mix of family friendly and fun for all ages. There's usually about an hour wait for a table around dinner time, but that’s okay because there is so much to do while you’re waiting. They have corn hole, a bar, hammock chairs to swing in, benches on the dock, an arcade, and even a play ground for kids. They have not tables in the sand and tables on regular wooden floor. If you’re under 21 don’t even think about trying to order a drink. Not only did they kick me out but they kicked my entire family out when I tried in my 20th year of age… My parents weren’t thrilled with me to say the least.
de Lazy Lizard 1st street: This place is pretty big and has mutltiple bars/ seating options. They serve a variety of food and more importantly, they have fish bowls. They are perfect for sharing or if you’re in savage mode you can drink it yourself (we don’t judge).
Coconuts 37th street: beach front bar that has 2-1 happy hour drinks from 5-6 pm. The hour goes by FAST so make sure you’re there before 5. They also have waitresses that will bring drinks to you on the beach, can it get any better than that?
Macky’s 53rd street: It gets crowded on the weekends. There is usually a DJ and theres also tables in the sand outside right on the water if you get too hot on the dance floor and need some fresh air.
